Eight of Nine Escapees Back in Custody, One Still on the Run

KINGSTON, Jamaica — What began as a daring jailbreak from the Constant Spring Police lock-up has ended with most of the escapees back behind bars.

Authorities confirmed that eight of the nine men who cut their way out of the facility early Tuesday morning have since been captured. Only one fugitive remains at large: 19-year-old murder-accused Alunzo Espute, of Cassava Piece, Kingston.

The most recent arrest came with the recapture of 18-year-old Fray Messias, charged with rape, who was tracked down in Stony Hill, St Andrew.

Police reports indicate the group exploited a security weakness, forcing their way through both a grille and a metal door to make their escape. Swift operations across the Corporate Area, however, led to the roundup of the majority of the men within hours.

Investigators continue to urge the public to remain alert and to share any information that may assist in locating Espute, the sole remaining fugitive.
