Court Denies Bail for Accused in St Mary Educator’s Murder Case

ST MARY — The man accused of killing Richmond Hill Basic School principal Angella “Angie” Hamilton will remain in custody until his next court hearing set for November 6.

Delroy Palmer, 31, also known as “Swag Boss” and “Basco,” appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday. Palmer, a labourer from the parish, is facing a murder charge in connection with Hamilton’s death earlier this year.

Investigators say DNA evidence tied him to the scene of the crime. He was arrested in August during a police operation in Harmony Hall, Highgate.

Hamilton, a beloved educator in her community, was discovered dead at her Pear Tree Grove residence in January. She had sustained multiple stab wounds. Friends said the 54-year-old had just returned from her first overseas trip to visit her daughter.

Her body was found after a family acquaintance went to check on her when repeated calls went unanswered. The discovery sent shockwaves through the quiet rural community.

Police sources revealed that Palmer was once taught by Hamilton in basic school and that he already has a criminal record.

The killing marked the first murder reported in St Mary this year, underscoring its impact on residents and the wider parish.
