It’s been nearly eight weeks since 31-year-old Stacy Ann Newland vanished without a trace—and for her family, each passing day has been a slow, agonizing spiral of unanswered questions and emotional torment.
The Riverton City mother of five was last seen on the evening of March 31. Since then, no one has heard her voice or seen her face. Her aunt, Shelline Gordon, said it took weeks of confusion, rumors, and dead ends before the family filed a formal missing person report on April 23.
“We kept hoping she’d just show up. That maybe she was staying with someone. But as the days turned into weeks, we couldn’t stay silent anymore,” Gordon explained.
What makes the disappearance even more distressing are the conflicting accounts that have since circulated. The family received a call claiming that Newland had been killed and sexually assaulted near Half-Way-Tree. But when Gordon and other relatives rushed to verify the report, they found no confirmation from the police or hospitals.
“We searched and searched. The police at Half-Way-Tree told us they had no such case. Nothing. It was like she just disappeared off the face of the earth,” Gordon said.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has since confirmed that while the case remains open, no new developments have surfaced to confirm Newland’s whereabouts or validate the rumors of her death.
Back at home, Newland’s children—one of whom is less than a year old—are being cared for by extended family. The absence of their mother grows more noticeable each day.
“She wasn’t the kind of person to just walk off,” Gordon said. “She visited me almost every day the week before. We would eat together, talk, laugh. That memory won’t leave me.”
Relatives say the longest she’s ever gone without checking in was no more than a couple of days. To them, this silence is unnatural—and frightening.
“There’s no closure,” Gordon admitted. “Every day we wonder if we’ll see her walk through the door, or if we’ll get a phone call with the worst news imaginable.”
The family remains hopeful that someone, somewhere, knows something—and that speaking up could finally bring an end to their uncertainty.
Anyone with information regarding Stacy Ann Newland’s whereabouts is being urged to contact the nearest police station immediately.
