KINGSTON, Jamaica — Customers will have to wait longer to send packages to the United States, as Jamaica Post has suspended all outbound parcels destined for America.
The suspension, announced Monday evening, comes in response to a sweeping change in US trade policy that removes duty-free concessions for incoming parcels. The change takes effect on August 29, effectively closing the channel for small packets and merchandise-bearing letters from Jamaica and other countries.
Jamaica Post confirmed that the final dispatch flight will leave on Thursday, August 28, with the last day for posting items set for Tuesday. After that, no further packages will be accepted until new arrangements are in place.
According to officials, the directive is not isolated to Jamaica but extends globally, stemming from an executive order issued by the US government. The move impacts how countries can send low-value goods into America without facing duties.
In a statement, the postal agency reassured customers that it is actively working with regional and international partners to explore alternatives. Updates are expected as discussions progress.
For now, those hoping to send packages northward will have to hold off until Jamaica Post announces a resolution.
