NEW YORK—Police detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of 40-year-old Tamara Rowe, a Jamaican immigrant and former Gleaner employee, who was discovered with multiple knife wounds inside her Wakefield, Bronx residence late Saturday night.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes of the 911 call and transported Rowe to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. According to investigators, she sustained critical injuries to the chest and right arm.
Rowe’s two children—a toddler and a ten-year-old—were inside the apartment at the time of the attack; the younger child was reportedly in the same room when the violence unfolded. Both children are now in the care of relatives, authorities confirmed.
Neighbors said Rowe shared the apartment with the children’s father. Building management told reporters that surveillance footage captured a man sprinting from the premises shortly before police arrived. The NYPD has not publicly identified a suspect and has yet to announce any arrests.
Friends say Rowe relocated to the United States approximately three years ago, hoping to build a better life for her family. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
