Decades-Old Abuse Claims Surface as Manchester Man Faces Rape Charges

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Allegations dating back over 40 years have resulted in the charging of a Manchester man with multiple counts of rape, following a formal investigation launched earlier this year.

Frederick Watson, a 75-year-old resident of Trinity district in Porus, was officially charged by the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) after a woman came forward in January 2025 alleging a pattern of abuse that occurred during her youth between 1980 and 1982.

According to authorities, the complainant and Watson once shared a residence in the Retirement area of St Elizabeth. It is during that time, investigators believe, the assaults were carried out.

Watson was taken into custody on April 28 and formally charged after being interviewed in the presence of his attorney. His court appearance is currently being scheduled.

Law enforcement officials have declined to comment further, citing the sensitivity and age of the case. However, they have reiterated their ongoing commitment to supporting survivors of sexual violence—regardless of when the offences may have occurred.
