Traumatizing Flight: Couple Forced to Sit Next to Deceased Passenger on Qatar Airways

SYDNEY, Australia (ABC News) – An Australian couple has described a traumatic experience on a Qatar Airways flight after being forced to sit next to a deceased passenger for the duration of their journey, despite empty seats elsewhere on the plane.

Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were traveling to Venice for a vacation when the incident occurred. According to their interview with Australia’s ABC News, a woman passed away unexpectedly mid-flight, and the couple was asked to move from their seats near the crew area. Shortly after, the body was placed next to them, wrapped in blankets.

While Colin was given the option to move to a different seat, Ring was told to remain beside the deceased passenger. He was visibly distressed as he watched the body being unwrapped upon landing, with emergency personnel boarding to handle the situation.

Though Ring expressed his sympathy for the woman and the crew’s swift actions, he was troubled by the lack of support offered to passengers and the absence of follow-up from Qatar Airways after the incident. “We completely understand that the airline isn’t at fault for the woman’s passing, but there should have been a protocol in place to ensure the comfort of the passengers on board,” Colin shared with ABC News.

The couple is now calling for better policies to be established for handling such sensitive situations in the future, ensuring passengers’ well-being in cases of in-flight emergencies.
