Rhoda Moy Crawford, the Member of Parliament for Manchester Central, has voiced grave concern over a recent spike in gun violence in the parish, calling it “disturbing” and urging her constituents to stay resolute in combating lawlessness.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Crawford expressed solidarity with the community members and stakeholders deeply troubled by the recent surge in violent incidents. “As the Member of Parliament for Central Manchester, I stand firmly with my law-abiding constituents and broader stakeholders who are alarmed by the recent outbreak of violence in our parish,” Crawford declared. “The recent spate of shootings, which has tragically resulted in five fatalities in just a few days, is indeed deeply troubling.”
The latest incident occurred early Thursday morning when a man was injured in a reported shootout between gang members in Greenvale, Mandeville. This incident adds to a troubling pattern of violence that has left at least five individuals dead and five others wounded in recent days.
Crawford reassured the public that the police are fully mobilized to tackle the crisis. “I want to assure constituents and the general public that our security forces, supported by the Government, are utilizing all available resources to apprehend those responsible for these violent acts. Their priority is to restore safety and normalcy to our communities as swiftly as possible,” she said.
The MP also urged anyone with information regarding the recent shootings to come forward and speak with the police. “We must not let this situation become our new normal,” Crawford emphasized. “I encourage everyone to assist the authorities in their efforts to restore peace and order across Manchester.”
Crawford’s statement underscores her commitment to addressing the surge in violence and her determination to work alongside law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the parish’s residents.
