Speed Signals Early Form as Thompson and Clayton Command Development Meet

GC Foster College delivered a clear message on Saturday: Jamaica’s sprint pipeline is already humming.

Kishane Thompson and Tia Clayton emerged as the headline acts at the Puma JAAA Fuller-Anderson Development Meet, each stamping authority in the 60-metre events with performances that hinted at a long and fast season ahead.

Thompson, representing MVP Track Club, exploded from lane five and never relinquished control, stopping the clock at 6.52 seconds in a briskly contested final. Odaine McPherson pressed him to the line, finishing a fraction behind, while Bryan Levell completed a tightly packed podium just a heartbeat back.

Depth was on display across the heats. Nishon Ebanks claimed his section in 6.61, with Rohan Watson close behind, while Ackeem Blake found himself edged out in a competitive grouping that underscored the quality concentrated in the field.

On the women’s side, Tia Clayton delivered a statement run. Smooth from the first stride, she led wire to wire and broke her own personal barrier, clocking 7.02 to claim victory. Jonielle Smith tracked her relentlessly and was rewarded with a lifetime best in second, marking a strong early-season duel between two proven performers.

No theatrics, no surprises — just precision, pace, and depth. Early meets rarely crown champions, but they do reveal trajectories. On Saturday, both Thompson and Clayton made theirs unmistakably clear.
