Nautical Star Storms to Commanding St Catherine Cup Triumph

KINGSTON — Caymanas Park witnessed a performance of rare authority on Saturday as Nautical Star delivered a crushing victory in the $1.25-million St Catherine Cup, leaving rivals scattered in his wake over the six-furlong sprint.

Prepared by Anthony Nunes and guided by jockey Raddesh Roman, the seasoned six-year-old broke sharply and immediately dictated terms, settling into a powerful rhythm that the rest of the field never threatened to disrupt. By the time the race approached the final bend, the contest was effectively over.

Nautical Star surged through the line in 1:11.2, stretching his margin to an emphatic 10 ¾ lengths over Champion Bubbler and Mark My Identity. The clock backed the visuals — this was dominance, not circumstance.

The win carried extra weight. It marked the horse’s first success on Jamaican soil and his first victory since 2023, closing the chapter on a frustrating spell that followed a disappointing showing in last year’s Mouttet Mile when he started favourite.

For Roman, it was a productive afternoon, adding a second success on the card with Last Possession in the fifth race for trainer Anthony Dixon. Beyond that, honours were evenly spread, with no stable claiming more than one winner across the eight-race programme.

Racing resumes at Caymanas Park on Saturday, but for now, the spotlight belongs firmly to Nautical Star — back, bold, and unmistakably back to his best.
