Old Harbour United Reshapes Mission, Takes Control of Spanish Town Police FC

Old Harbour United Football Club has confirmed a major strategic pivot, announcing the acquisition of Jamaica Premier League strugglers Spanish Town Police FC and a complete reorientation of its own competitive focus.

Fresh off securing the St Catherine FA Division One crown, Old Harbour United will step away from participation in the St Catherine Major League. The club says it will surrender its title and transition into a full-time football academy, concentrating exclusively on youth development and long-term talent cultivation.

According to the club, the decision marks a deliberate shift toward sustainability. The restructured academy will prioritise technical excellence, discipline, education, and holistic player growth, positioning itself as a feeder and development engine for elite-level football locally and nationally.

While Old Harbour United steps back from senior competition, Spanish Town Police FC now benefits from new ownership and organisational backing. The academy structure is expected to directly support the Spanish Town-based club’s competitive ambitions as it fights for survival in the top flight.

Founded in 1977, Spanish Town Police FC earned historic promotion to the Jamaica Premier League for the 2025–2026 season but have endured a difficult campaign. With only two wins from 14 matches, the team sits at the foot of the 14-club table on eight points and remains under serious threat of relegation.

They currently trail Chapelton Maroons and fellow promoted side Treasure Beach FC by four points. Despite the odds, wins over Waterhouse FC and Treasure Beach FC suggest there is still a path to recovery.

Old Harbour United expressed appreciation to the St Catherine Football Association, its players, coaches, supporters, and community partners, acknowledging their role in the club’s journey to date. The club says it now looks ahead to a new chapter—one defined not by league tables, but by building the next generation of Jamaican footballers while reinforcing Spanish Town Police FC’s push to retain Premier League status.
