Butler Charged After $7 Million St James Robbery

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Detectives have charged a 31-year-old butler in connection with a daring multimillion-dollar robbery that unfolded in St James earlier this year.

The accused, identified as Nicoy Ramsay, otherwise called “Nick,” of Esher, Hanover, is facing charges of robbery with aggravation and unlawful wounding.

According to investigators, at about 8:30 p.m. on a June evening, two employees of a trading company were travelling in a motor truck when they came under attack at the intersection of Upper Bevon Avenue and Market Circle. Armed men, including Ramsay, allegedly ambushed the vehicle and escaped with approximately $7 million.

During the assault, the driver of the truck was reportedly struck by one of the attackers, leaving him with a bleeding wound. The matter was reported to the police, prompting an immediate probe.

On Wednesday, September 17, Ramsay surrendered to the Negril Police Station in the company of his attorney. He was subsequently transferred to St James, where detectives conducted an identification parade. Ramsay was pointed out and later charged.

His court appearance is now pending as law enforcement finalises the arrangements.
