Hopeton Lindo Strikes Gold with Latest Lovers Rock Release

Veteran singer and songwriter Hopeton Lindo has found fresh success with his sixth studio effort, This Song’s For You, which has been holding the top position on the South Florida Reggae Chart for two consecutive weeks.

Released on July 18 through Zojak Worldwide, the album reflects years of careful craftsmanship. Lindo, who helms his own Irie Pen Records, produced more than half the tracks himself, a move he credits to lessons learned from reggae stalwarts like Gussie Clarke and King Jammy. For him, the formula has always been discipline over shortcuts.

Unlike many artistes who rush projects annually, Lindo has taken a more deliberate approach. This Song’s For You arrives two years after his previous album, Purpose. He explained that the timing was intentional: “I wanted to complete other Irie Pen projects first, then focus on this one as my first full lovers rock album. It’s something I especially wanted to give to the ladies who’ve been such a big part of my fan base.”

The collection blends originals and reinterpretations, including a standout duet with Marcia Griffiths on a heartfelt version of A House Is Not a Home, originally popularized by Dionne Warwick. Other cuts such as Hot Number, Magnet, and Good Woman showcase his smooth delivery and ear for melody.

While listeners know Lindo for hits like Territory and Lonely Night, his pen has shaped some of dancehall and reggae’s biggest anthems. During his tenure with Clarke’s Music Works camp in the ’80s and ’90s, he co-wrote classics like Telephone Love for JC Lodge, Mr Loverman for Shabba Ranks, and Ragamuffin for Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor.

With This Song’s For You, Lindo reaffirms his place as both a seasoned performer and an architect behind some of reggae’s most enduring works.
