Campbell Anchors Windies Reply After Early Setbacks at Sabina Park

Sabina Park, Kingston — Australia’s first-innings 225 looms large, but the West Indies moved to 73-for-3 by the opening interval on day two of the third Test, still 152 runs adrift.

Opener John Campbell has looked composed in reaching 31* and will resume alongside debutant Mikyle Louis on 2*. Their stand followed a brisk, eventful morning in which three wickets tumbled.

The home side began on 16-for-1 but lost Brandon King within 30 minutes, edging Josh Hazlewood to slip for 14. At 28-for-2, captain Roston Chase joined Campbell and briefly steadied the chase, adding 30 valuable runs. The respite ended when Pat Cummins found extra bounce and Usman Khawaja claimed a sharp catch to remove Chase for 18.

Still to take guard are Shai Hope, Justin Greaves, Jomel Warrican, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales. Yesterday’s late casualty, Kevlon Anderson (3), remains the only wicket to fall in the series-opening spell from the Australian seamers.

With Campbell settled and plenty of batting to come, the afternoon session will determine whether the Windies can chip away at Australia’s lead or surrender the initiative once more.
