End of an Era: JHTA President Robin Russell Hands Over the Baton

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — After steering the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) through three consecutive terms, President Robin Russell announced at Friday’s Annual General Meeting that he will not be on the ballot when elections are held later today.

Russell, who first assumed the top post in 2022, used his address to express gratitude for what he called “an extraordinary partnership” with member properties and industry stakeholders. “Your confidence empowered us to navigate both triumphs and trials,” he said, before receiving a standing ovation from delegates gathered at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

With his departure official, the association will retreat behind closed doors to select its next president. Russell urged hoteliers to extend “equal—or greater—support” to the incoming leader, stressing that the organisation’s momentum depends on a united membership.

The JHTA’s newly elected chief is expected to be introduced this afternoon, charting a fresh course as Jamaica’s tourism sector prepares for its next phase of growth.
