It was a day of precision, camaraderie, and quiet triumph as golfers gathered at Caymanas Golf Club for the eighth edition of the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic — an annual charity tournament that continues to blend athletic spirit with purpose.
Emerging at the top of the leaderboard was Errol Eccles, whose measured consistency earned him the day’s best score of 39 points under Stableford rules. The result crowned him overall champion and recipient of a luxurious weekend for two at the Half Moon Hotel, alongside a curated gift basket courtesy of Jamaica Standard Products.
Reflecting on the unexpected victory, Eccles said, “It was one of those rare days where everything aligned — the weather, my swing, and the company. To win a tournament that honours Lindy Delapenha, a true icon of Jamaican sports, is a personal and profound highlight.”
While the elusive hole-in-one prize — a 2025 Nissan E-Power X-Trail — remained unclaimed, Cedric Blair left a mark by coming the closest, drawing excitement at the tournament’s signature 10th hole activation.
The competition was fierce across categories. In the Ladies’ Division, seasoned standout Diane Hudson once again demonstrated her steady form with 38 points, securing her a weekend at Sandals Beaches. Maggie Lyn followed closely with 37, earning a spa package and Carimed gift basket.
Among the Super Senior Men, Richard Josephs and Larry Lodenquai both carded 38s, with Josephs clinching the win on countback. Their rewards included luxurious hotel stays and gift packages. Howard McKenzie’s 37 landed him third in category — and double honours, as he also walked away with the Elias Azan Trophy for the top Munro College alumnus.
The Men and Senior Men’s division saw Philip Gooden and Damion Anderson tie on 37, with Gooden edging ahead for first place. Oshae Haye rounded out the top three, finishing with a solid 36.
Beyond the scores, the atmosphere was energized by title sponsor Keller Williams, who kept golfers refreshed with chilled coconut water and cooling towels. Monymusk offered their signature rum blends, and CG United Insurance provided a shaded retreat at hole 10 — all adjacent to the gleaming Nissan prize car on display.
Victor Tomlinson, President of the Munro College Old Boys’ Association (MCOBA), underscored the significance of the day: “It’s not just about golf; it’s about giving back. We’re proud of the turnout, thankful for our sponsors, and committed to ensuring this event grows in impact and scale year after year.”
Plans are already underway to evolve the tournament. Tomlinson confirmed that the post-event committee will reconvene to evaluate enhancements — with the overarching aim of increasing sponsorship and funding support for sports development at Munro College.
The MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic remains a fixture not just for sport, but for legacy building — honouring a legend while paving the way for the next generation.
