Jamaican sprint hurdler Daniel Clarke is charting a new path in his rising career, officially beginning his collegiate chapter at Texas Tech University after opting to leave Kingston College a year early. At just 18 years old, Clarke is stepping onto the NCAA Division I stage, eager to test himself against the best and continue building his legacy.
Clarke shot into global prominence on March 2, clocking a stunning personal best of 13.06 seconds in the 110m hurdles at the Jamaican Carifta Trials — a mark that still sits atop the world rankings for Under-20 athletes. The performance signaled more than raw speed — it showcased composure, timing, and world-class potential.
“Texas Tech just felt like the right fit,” Clarke shared. “Their program is competitive, their facilities are elite, and the coaching culture aligns with everything I’m used to — tough but supportive.”
Home to nearly 40,000 students and ranked among the most respected athletics institutions in the U.S., Texas Tech offers Clarke more than track success. He will pursue a degree in Kinesiology, a field rooted in human movement, health, and high performance — fitting for someone whose career depends on milliseconds and muscle memory.
While Clarke is eager for this next chapter, he remains grounded in gratitude for his roots.
“Kingston College shaped me,” he said. “Every year, every rep, every win — it’s part of who I am. And I’m proud to have contributed to that legacy, especially during our 100th anniversary.”
Clarke was a key piece in KC’s four-year domination of the Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships. Even in the shadow of close friend and rival Shaquane Gordon, Clarke’s presence on the track was undeniable.
Looking ahead, the rising star has no intention of slowing down. With eyes set on Jamaica’s National Senior Championships, Clarke is prepared to raise the bar — literally and figuratively.
“I’m stepping up now,” he said. “This is the senior level, and I’m ready to go beyond what I’ve done before. I’ve got a lot more to show.”
As he trades the purple of Kingston College for the red and black of Texas Tech, Daniel Clarke carries with him the ambition, discipline, and promise of Jamaica’s next great hurdler.
