Hydel High School once again stamped its authority on the international stage, closing out the 129th Penn Relays Carnival on Saturday with a dominant and history-making performance in the High School Girls’ 4x400m Championship of America.
The formidable quartet of Natassia Fletcher, Abigail Campbell, Sashana Johnson, and Jody-Ann Daley delivered a breathtaking run of 3:30.42 minutes — shattering the previous meet record of 3:32.77 minutes, which had also been set by a Hydel team just two years prior. Their new time not only secured a fourth consecutive title for Hydel but now stands as the second-fastest ever by a Jamaican under-20 women’s team, trailing only the legendary 2001 national junior record.
Demonstrating both depth and precision, the team’s splits were near-perfect: Fletcher (53.06), Campbell (52.46), Johnson (52.47), and Daley (52.28), each unleashing fierce legs to seal the historic win.
Bullis School of Maryland fought valiantly but again settled for second, clocking an impressive 3:33.30 — the third-fastest high school time ever recorded. Jamaican powerhouse Edwin Allen claimed third with 3:36.14, while Holmwood Technical (3:38.80) and Immaculate Conception High (3:43.17) rounded out the top six.
Hydel’s triumph was not just another victory; it was a statement — one of dominance, legacy, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
