TREASURE BEACH, St Elizabeth — Tragedy struck Tuesday morning at the Tranquility Bay Police Training Facility when a trainee officer collapsed shortly after completing a routine workout.
The officer, identified as 35-year-old Desmond Thompson, reportedly fell ill while walking back to the barracks following the morning’s physical training session.
Immediate efforts were made to resuscitate him on-site before he was rushed to the Black River Hospital. Despite these efforts, Thompson was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Thompson, a former district constable, had recently re-entered the force and was undergoing standard training protocols at the time of the incident.
Authorities have launched an internal review to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
