ST MARY, Jamaica — In response to a troubling increase in crime and gang-related incidents, the quiet rural community of Albion Mountain in St Mary has been placed under a curfew effective until January 9. Authorities aim to restore order and ensure the safety of residents during this tense period.
The decision follows a series of alarming events, including a reported case of arson, the recovery of a 9 mm Ruger pistol in December, and an unreported shooting incident, among other suspected gang activities.
Acting Superintendent of Police for St Mary, Anthony Wallace, emphasized the importance of the curfew in maintaining peace. “The curfew is a proactive step to address criminal activities in the area. We urge residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement personnel on the ground,” he stated. Wallace reassured the public that all operations would be conducted with respect for human rights.
The curfew, which began earlier this week, affects key areas such as Top Mountain near Albion Mountain Square, Trinity Land main road, Cox Street main road, and Roslyn Road. Residents are required to remain indoors during the restricted hours from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily.
This move underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle crime in rural areas and preserve the tranquility for which communities like Albion Mountain are known. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities and work with the police to build a safer environment.
