Veteran Newspaper Vendor Found Dead in Mandeville Bus Shed

MANDEVILLE, Jamaica — Authorities in Mandeville have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of long-serving newspaper vendor Patrick Ewers, popularly known as “Kitoso,” early Monday morning.

Ewers, 52, was found lifeless in a bus shed near the entrance of the Mandeville Regional Hospital by a street sweeper around 4:00 am. His death has cast a somber cloud over the community, where he was a familiar and cherished figure.

For nearly two decades, Ewers faithfully sold the Daily Observer newspaper in Mandeville, becoming a staple presence in the town’s bustling streets. His dedication to his work earned him the respect and admiration of both customers and passersby.

A source close to the situation revealed that Ewers had been recently admitted to the hospital, although details surrounding his condition remain unclear.

Preliminary police reports suggest there are no indications of foul play. His body has been taken to the morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Residents have expressed sadness at the loss of someone they saw almost daily, with many reminiscing about his friendly demeanor and unwavering commitment to his work. “Kitoso was more than just a vendor; he was part of the community,” said one resident.

The investigation continues as the town mourns the passing of one of its own.
