New Talent on the Turf: Caymanas Park Welcomes Its Fresh Jockeys

After months of intensive instruction and hands-on practice, Caymanas Park is poised to showcase the next wave of Jamaican riding talent. The Jamaica Racing Commission’s 2024 Jockeys’ Training School graduates are no longer mere students—they are ready contenders eager to make their official race debuts.

This weekend promises to be a milestone in their budding careers. On Saturday, December 14, audiences can expect to see Evertte Clunis, Demar Williams, Emilio McLean, Jermaine Lewis, and Romaine Gordon mount up under the watchful eyes of veteran trainers and seasoned racegoers. The following day, many of these young riders will return to the saddle, joined by Tyrese Anderson, for yet another opportunity to refine their techniques and prove their worth in live competition.

While Saturday and Sunday mark their first appearance on the formal race cards, these apprentices are hardly untested. Prior to this pivotal moment, they honed their craft in three exclusive apprentice-only races designed to bridge the gap between training drills and the intensity of professional-level sport. Now, as these new jockeys step into the official racing arena, they carry the hopes of their instructors, the pride of the Commission, and the promise of ushering in a new era of horse racing excellence at Caymanas Park.
