Police Charge Westmoreland Resident with Multiple Offenses After Latest Shooting

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Police in Westmoreland have charged 25-year-old Renaldo Richards with additional firearm offenses following a shooting incident on Friday, September 6, in Petersfield. Richards, who had been reporting regularly to the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station as part of his bail conditions on previous firearm charges, was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Detectives allege that Richards fired multiple shots at a taxi as it was picking up passengers in the community of Bastard Cedar Walk, resulting in injuries to two individuals. Following the incident, Richards has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Previously, he faced charges related to unauthorized possession of ammunition. Authorities are continuing investigations to assess any further connections Richards may have with recent incidents in the area.
