Jamaica Implements Remote Work for Government Staff Amid Severe Weather Warnings

KINGSTON, Jamaica — In response to worsening weather across the island, government authorities have announced that all public offices will remain closed on Tuesday. Only essential service providers will continue in-person operations, while others are encouraged to work from home where possible.

With storm conditions forecasted to persist, government employees who can work remotely are advised to use digital tools provided by their respective departments, ensuring minimal disruption to public services. Critical operations—including emergency services—will proceed, with safety precautions emphasized for all personnel commuting.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized public safety and recognized the commitment of frontline workers in these difficult conditions. “Our essential workers continue to serve the country under challenging circumstances, and we urge them to exercise caution on the roads,” he said, adding that remote work would support continuity where feasible.

Residents are encouraged to keep informed on weather updates from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and adhere to any public safety recommendations issued.
