Local Farmer Faces Charges in Connection with 2022 Homicide

ST. JAMES, Jamaica — A farmer from St. James has been arrested and charged in relation to a deadly shooting that took place in 2022, raising concerns within the community.

Terry Atkinson, 26, of Sand Lane in German Town, is now facing serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, and illegal firearm possession. The victim of this tragic incident has been identified as 26-year-old Gary Morgan, also from the same neighborhood.

The shooting occurred on September 4, 2022, around 1:45 PM. Eyewitnesses reported that Atkinson, accompanied by a group of eight other men brandishing firearms, approached a local cook shop near Morgan’s residence. During this confrontation, the group reportedly fired several shots, causing panic among onlookers and prompting them to flee the scene.

Once the gunfire ceased, Morgan was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby medical facility, where he tragically passed away.

Recent developments have seen a witness come forward, providing crucial information to the police implicating Atkinson. After a formal interview with his attorney present, Atkinson was apprehended on November 1, 2024. He is now awaiting a court date as the legal proceedings unfold. The community remains shaken by the events, as the investigation continues to gather momentum.
