Tragic Incident in Ewarton: Officer Involved Shooting Claims Life of New Jersey Resident

Ewarton, St. Catherine, Jamaica — A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night at the Ewarton Sports Complex, resulting in the death of 34-year-old Vivian Francis, a Jamaican residing in New Jersey, USA.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that an altercation broke out between Francis and a police officer around 10:10 PM during the event. Tensions escalated when Francis allegedly overturned a table, leading to a confrontation. Reports indicate that Francis then produced a knife from his waistband and attempted to stab the officer.

In response, the officer drew his service weapon and commanded Francis to drop the knife. As Francis allegedly advanced towards the officer, the policeman discharged his firearm, striking Francis.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and Francis was transported to Linstead Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

This incident has raised significant concerns and prompted an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which will assess the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting.
