ST. JAMES, Jamaica—The St. James Police have confirmed the capture of the suspect involved in a hit-and-run incident that left a police constable critically injured. The individual, identified as Dillion Reid, also known by the aliases “Bulby” and “CJ,” turned himself in to law enforcement authorities on Saturday, accompanied by his legal representative.
This development comes after a swift manhunt was initiated following the troubling incident on Friday. Superintendent Eron Samuels, head of the St. James police division, provided details on the event. According to his account, police were conducting a routine roadblock exercise on Granville Main Road near St. Johns when Constable Reid signaled a white Toyota Probox to halt.
Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, striking the constable and sending him over a nearby precipice. The injured officer was subsequently rescued from the edge and transported to Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has expressed gratitude to the community for their support during the investigation, which significantly aided in the quick identification and apprehension of Reid. The JCF continues to emphasize the importance of public cooperation in maintaining safety and upholding the law.
