Manchester Man Sentenced for Drug Trafficking

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Mahon Davis, a 38-year-old resident of Ewarton, St. Catherine, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison or face fines exceeding J$1 million following his guilty plea to charges of possession and trafficking of illegal drugs. The sentencing took place at the Manchester Parish Court on Monday, September 23.

Davis’s legal troubles began during a police operation conducted by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) on July 25, when officers intercepted his Toyota Axio. During a traffic stop, law enforcement discovered approximately two kilograms of cocaine and 12 pounds of ganja concealed within the vehicle.

According to police reports, officers noticed Davis driving with a female passenger and signaled him to pull over. Upon conducting a search, they found two garbage bags filled with ganja in the trunk, along with one kilogram of cocaine hidden behind the glove compartment. A further inspection revealed an additional kilogram of cocaine stashed in another section of the car.

Both Davis and his female passenger were taken into custody, but she was later released during the investigation.

In court, Davis received the following sentences:

  • Six months imprisonment for possession of ganja or a J$15,000 fine
  • Six months imprisonment for trafficking ganja or a J$105,816 fine
  • Six months imprisonment for possession of cocaine or a J$500,000 fine
  • Four months suspended sentence for two years or a J$500,000 fine for trafficking cocaine

If Davis fails to pay the fines, the sentences will run concurrently.

Additionally, Davis is set to appear in the Manchester Circuit Court on January 23, 2025, for an asset forfeiture hearing.
