KINGSTON, Jamaica — Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, spokesperson for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), has denounced the People’s National Party (PNP) for its recent demand that Prime Minister Andrew Holness resign immediately. The JLP has labeled the PNP’s call as “desperate and unwarranted,” asserting that it lacks merit and is rooted in political maneuvering rather than factual evidence.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Cuthbert-Flynn countered the PNP’s claims, emphasizing that the Integrity Commission (IC) report cited by the opposition did not find any wrongdoing on the part of Prime Minister Holness. She defended the prime minister’s track record, highlighting his effective leadership during multiple crises and asserting that he has not been implicated in any illegal or unethical conduct.
“The Integrity Commission’s report, which thoroughly examined the prime minister’s financial affairs, concluded that no public funds were involved and did not implicate him in any misconduct. It is evident that the PNP’s call for the prime minister’s resignation is driven by a desperate desire to undermine a leader who has positively impacted Jamaica,” Cuthbert-Flynn stated.
She further criticized the PNP’s stance by comparing it to a previous investigation conducted by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) into the ‘Dehring, Bunting and Golding Sweetheart Deal.’ According to Cuthbert-Flynn, the OCG’s findings had significant implications, and it is Peter Bunting and Mark Golding—key figures involved in that investigation—who should be stepping down from their leadership roles within the opposition.
“Given the results of the OCG probe, it is clear that Peter Bunting and Mark Golding should be the ones resigning from their positions as opposition leader and opposition senate leader, respectively. Their current roles only serve to highlight the PNP’s decline into an organization driven more by gimmicks and expediency than by genuine leadership and integrity,” Cuthbert-Flynn concluded.
