WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Michael Lee-Chin, Chairman of National Commercial Bank (NCB) Financial Group, has announced ambitious plans to expand the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) network throughout Jamaica. The move aims to enhance accessibility to banking services for all Jamaicans.
In a recent statement, Lee-Chin emphasized the bank’s commitment to improving financial accessibility. “The plan is not just to replace existing ATMs, but to blanket the country with new ones,” he said. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure comprehensive access to financial services across the island.
The expansion comes in response to recent challenges, including vandalism and theft of ATMs, as well as the closure of some ATM locations by banks. Despite these issues, NCB is determined to overcome these obstacles and fulfill its goal of widespread ATM availability.
Addressing the media in Westmoreland last Thursday, Lee-Chin acknowledged that there are hurdles to address before the expansion can be fully realized. “There are some challenges that we have to work through which we are now working through,” he noted, without delving into specific details.
In March, Loop News reported that NCB planned to introduce at least 50 new ATMs in economically critical areas. Currently, NCB operates approximately 300 of Jamaica’s 824 ATMs, representing 36 percent of the island’s total ATM network. This positions NCB as the largest ATM provider in Jamaica, ahead of Scotia Bank with 35 percent and Jamaica National with 18 percent.
The expansion underscores NCB’s commitment to enhancing financial inclusion and accessibility, ensuring that more Jamaicans can benefit from reliable and convenient banking services.
