Kingston, Jamaica — Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, a Cabinet Minister, has firmly denied rumors about holding dual citizenship, refuting claims of her being a British national.
The controversy arose after graphics suggesting Johnson Smith’s British citizenship were circulated, featuring a photo of the minister labeled as “British.”
Responding to these claims, Johnson Smith took to Instagram on Friday afternoon to clarify: “I’ve seen these new graphics making rounds, but I’m puzzled by their calculations. My father is from Kingston, my mother from Trelawny, and I was born in Kingston. I am unequivocally 100 per cent Jamaican.”
She further stated, “No matter how they twist the facts, Markie British remains British—that’s his own claim, not mine. Please, keep me out of this narrative.”
