Shameel Brown Steps Into Leadership of PNP’s Trust Fund Grants Board

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) has appointed Shameel Brown to lead the OT Fairclough Trust Fund Grants Board, marking a new chapter in the organization’s stewardship of educational and welfare initiatives.

Brown takes the reins from Member of Parliament Richard Azan, who is credited with steering the board through years of consistent service. Party officials noted that his tenure strengthened the fund’s reach and its ability to support party workers and beneficiaries.

A Young Leader With Broad Experience

Currently chair of the PNP Welfare Commission and vice president of the PNP Youth Organisation, Brown has already built a reputation for hands-on leadership. Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social policy from the University of the West Indies, where she is now pursuing a master’s degree in international public and development management.

The party highlighted her dedication to mentorship, youth engagement, and national development, qualities it believes will fuel a “new era of growth” for the trust fund.

Recent Scholarship Distribution

The announcement comes on the heels of the trust fund’s 2025 scholarship awards, which provided financial support to students across the island. Dozens of young Jamaicans benefited from this year’s programme, reinforcing the fund’s longstanding commitment to education and opportunity.

The Grants Board operates with representatives drawn from the six party regions and key arms of the organization, including the PNP Youth Organisation, the Patriots, the Women’s Movement, the National Workers Union, and the Councillor Caucus.
