Body Discovered in Overgrown Area of Manchester, Residents in Shock

GEORGE REID, Manchester — A quiet community was shaken Monday afternoon after residents stumbled upon a decomposed body in a thicket along the George Reid main.

The discovery came after locals, disturbed by a strong stench in the area, ventured into the bushes. A community member explained that a machete was used to clear the overgrowth when what appeared to be human remains were spotted in a ditch. Law enforcement and firefighters were quickly summoned to the scene.

The deceased is believed to be 46-year-old Marlon Corinthian, a familiar face in the district who was reported missing days earlier. Corinthian, known to struggle with mental health challenges, had last been seen on September 20. Family members, growing uneasy about his absence, filed a missing person’s report a week later.

A woman, who described herself as a close friend, recalled being the one to alert authorities when she realized Corinthian had not been seen for over a week. “He was loved around here,” she said, suggesting that he may have ventured into the bush to collect plants he often used for tea before falling into difficulty.

Relatives also confirmed his ongoing treatment as a mental health patient. One family member noted that food left out for him remained untouched, a detail that deepened concerns and prompted further checks with the Mandeville Regional Hospital.

Police, assisted by firefighters and undertakers, later removed the body. Residents and onlookers stood back, many covering their faces with cloths or masks as the odour intensified during the recovery.

Authorities are continuing investigations to formally confirm the identity of the body and the circumstances of Corinthian’s death.
