JLP Maps Out Strategy Ahead of September 3 Election

KINGSTON, Jamaica — With the general election date now firmly set for September 3, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has shifted its campaign machine into high gear, pledging a measured but relentless push to retain office.

Party Chairman Robert Montague acknowledged that winning a third consecutive term will demand disciplined effort, but insists the groundwork is being laid.

“We are not under any illusion that victory comes automatically. Respecting the will of the people means earning their trust again, and that’s exactly what we intend to do,” Montague said.

Campaign on the Ground

The JLP’s current campaign structure focuses on strategic community engagement rather than flashy displays. According to Montague, voter guides are being circulated and canvassing teams are active across the island, working to maintain visibility while fine-tuning operations.

He emphasized that the party’s energy is being channeled into door-to-door contact, localized meetings, and steady mobilization in key constituencies — efforts he believes will bear fruit in the days leading up to the polls.

Holding Momentum

Montague was careful not to overstate the party’s progress, noting that timing matters in politics.

“We are building deliberately. The peak of our campaign has not yet arrived, but every move we make is aligned with our larger strategy. Ten days is a long time in politics, and we intend to use it wisely,” he explained.

Looking Ahead

The 2020 general election saw the JLP claim a commanding victory with 48 of the 63 parliamentary seats. While Montague declined to predict an exact number this time, he was clear that the target remains control of the House.

“We contest all 63 seats, and we remain optimistic. At minimum, our focus is on securing the majority necessary to continue governing effectively,” he stated.

As the countdown begins, the ruling party is positioning itself to persuade voters that continuity — backed by organization and discipline — is the best choice for the nation.
