Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company deepened its commitment to national health causes by rallying over 100 staff members to join the Jamaica Cancer Society’s Relay for Life — an overnight initiative held at the Police Officers’ Club in St. Andrew. The 12-hour relay served not only as a symbol of unity against cancer but also as a catalyst for national dialogue on early detection and patient support.
As platinum sponsor, Scotia Jamaica Life contributed $2 million to fund public education, screening efforts, and patient care across the island. Their presence extended beyond financial support, with a branded booth that included a community mural wall, a wellness lounge, and locally sourced refreshments courtesy of DeafCan — reinforcing the values of inclusion and shared purpose.
President of Scotia Jamaica Life, Debra Spence, used the opportunity to spotlight CritiCare, the company’s flagship critical illness policy, designed to make insurance more accessible for Jamaicans facing life-threatening diseases. “Access to screening and treatment shouldn’t be a luxury,” she said. “We want to bridge that gap.”
Roshane Reid Koomson, representing the Jamaica Cancer Society, commended the company’s longstanding partnership and underlined the lifesaving potential of early diagnosis, especially in breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancers.
The event served as a moving tribute to survivors, a remembrance of those lost, and a beacon of hope for those still in the fight — with Scotia playing an active role in turning solidarity into actionable impact.
