KINGSTON, Jamaica — Shanieka Ricketts again underlined her dominance of Jamaican triple-jumping on Saturday night, storming back in the fifth round to capture her seventh straight senior title at the JAAA National Championships inside the National Stadium.
Forced to chase after long-jump winner Ackelia Smith opened with a season-best 14.44 m (+1.3 m/s), Ricketts found her rhythm when it mattered, propelling herself 14.52 m on her penultimate attempt against a slight head-wind (-0.3 m/s). The jump erased Smith’s early advantage and effectively ended the contest, keeping Ricketts’ national winning streak—now dating back to 2019—unbroken.
Smith, content with two rounds after her earlier exploits in the sandpit on Thursday, settled for silver. Veteran campaigner Kimberly Williams, 36, produced her best effort of 13.80 m (-2.5 m/s) to round out the podium, a reassuring season’s mark for the former Commonwealth champion.
Ricketts will now turn her attention to international preparations, eyeing the Olympics later this summer with momentum firmly on her side.
