Clarendon’s Rising Star: Akedia Morgan Shines with Purpose Beyond the Crown

MANDEVILLE, Jamaica — In a dazzling evening at the Golf View Hotel, 21-year-old Akedia Morgan emerged as the new face of Miss Universe Jamaica Central, securing her place in the national competition. But beyond the stage lights and applause, Morgan is determined to make her reign about transformation, not just trophies.

A university student and call centre agent, Morgan defied the odds to claim the regional crown, representing Clarendon among a field of twelve competitors. Her win on Sunday evening wasn’t just about beauty or poise—it was a declaration of purpose.

“She walks with purpose, and from the very beginning, her sincerity and drive stood out,” said pageant manager Trilissa Walker. “Akedia didn’t just want to win—she wanted to lead.”

That leadership now begins with her platform initiative, Boys to Men—a community-focused programme aimed at improving mental wellness among boys in underserved areas. Inspired by her late father’s struggles, Morgan says the project is her way of rewriting the narrative around male vulnerability in Jamaican society.

“It’s not enough to wear a crown if you’re not willing to wear the responsibility that comes with it,” Morgan said in a post-pageant interview. “I want young boys to know that expressing their emotions is not weakness—it’s strength.”

Her journey to the crown wasn’t without sacrifice. From late-night walks to training sessions to missed alarms on media days, Morgan recounts the experience as “divine preparation.” Through every obstacle, she remained grounded in faith and determination.

Now, with her eyes set on the national Miss Universe Jamaica title, Morgan is walking boldly into her next chapter—not for fame, but for change.

“I’m here to be a voice,” she said. “And I intend to use it.”
