A pivotal chapter in Jamaican boxing unfolds today as Elise Seignolle, President of the Pan American Boxing Confederation, arrives on the island for a five-day working visit.
Seignolle’s itinerary includes a key highlight on Saturday evening at the Stanley Couch Gym in Kingston, where she will witness the Gloves Over Guns Futures Programme — an initiative that continues to raise Jamaica’s profile on the regional stage. Saturday’s event will feature competitive action from visiting teams representing the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom, further underscoring Jamaica’s growing influence in international amateur boxing.
Stephen Jones, President of the Jamaica Boxing Association, described Seignolle’s visit as a timely boost for the local boxing movement.
“Having the Pan American President on Jamaican soil is another powerful endorsement of our progress,” Jones said. “Following the historic visit by World Boxing’s president, Boris van der Vorst, we are again reminded that Jamaica is no longer on the sidelines — we are moving to the center of the sport’s future in the Caribbean.”
Jones also noted Seignolle’s ambitions for the confederation to assert a stronger global footprint, positioning Jamaica as a regional nerve center for development and leadership in the sport.
A former boxer herself, Seignolle transitioned from the ring to the boardroom, bringing hands-on experience to her administrative career. Earlier this year, she was elected as the confederation’s president, with Jones also securing a seat on the executive board as a director — a strategic move that further cements Jamaica’s role in shaping the region’s boxing agenda.
The visit is expected to deepen collaboration, energize grassroots programmes, and amplify Jamaica’s presence in the corridors of international boxing governance.
