KINGSTON, Jamaica — Travelers and residents near Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) should expect an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel on Thursday, March 13, 2025, as the airport conducts a large-scale emergency simulation from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The full-scale drill, organized by NMIA in collaboration with its emergency response partners, will test the airport’s ability to manage a critical incident on-site. The exercise is part of routine preparedness measures to ensure a swift and coordinated response in the event of a real emergency.
Theresa Benjamin, director of operations at PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), emphasized the significance of the drill. “Training through realistic simulations is essential for maintaining high safety standards. This exercise will allow us to assess our operational readiness and strengthen coordination with our emergency response partners.”
As part of the simulation, various emergency teams will mobilize as if responding to an actual crisis, ensuring that response protocols align with international aviation safety standards. The drill will also help authorities identify potential gaps and refine existing emergency procedures.
Motorists traveling to and from NMIA during the scheduled exercise should be mindful of increased emergency activity, including fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles. While no real threat is posed, the airport encourages passengers and nearby communities to remain calm and proceed with their daily activities as usual.
NMIA remains committed to ensuring the highest levels of safety and preparedness for all travelers and airport personnel.
