Veteran dancehall icon Beenie Man and reggae crooner Tony Curtis have teamed up for their latest single, Enemies, a track that fuses classic dancehall energy with a compelling message about resilience and triumph over adversity. Released through Johnny Wonder 21st Distribution, the track rides the infectious Hot Topic rhythm and creatively nods to Pinchers’ timeless hit Enemies on the Borderline.
While Enemies pulsates with the grit and bravado dancehall fans love, it also carries a deeper message about staying focused despite betrayal and setbacks. Tony Curtis, known for his smooth vocal delivery, explained the song’s inspiration.
“Beenie Man just called me and said, ‘Sing about enemies,’” Curtis revealed. “I don’t really have any enemies, but he wanted that theme, so I just went with it. Different times call for different vibes, and this one is just about overcoming challenges.”
Lyrically, Beenie Man reasserts his dominance in the genre, spitting lines that fans have dissected for hidden meanings:
“Everything weh yuh talk say mi hear yuh / Yuh a just man, nuh think say mi fear yuh / Mi a the king, the don, the emperor and the pharaoh / Godfather, dem gal Robert De Niro / Dinero, money a power, nothing nuh scare yuh.”
Tony Curtis complements the energy with his haunting refrain: “Enemies pon dem ground fi mine… enemies it is murder time.”
With some listeners speculating that the song throws subtle jabs in the ongoing King of Dancehall debate, Mineral Boss Records (MBR) executive Tawanna Jones dismissed the idea.
“MBR Music is not about rivalry. We produce real, authentic music—no subliminals, just reality,” Jones stated.
As Enemies continues to gain traction across streaming platforms and radio airwaves, Beenie Man and Tony Curtis once again prove that their chemistry is undeniable, and their music still resonates with dancehall lovers worldwide.
