KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Scorpions find themselves in a challenging position as they begin their reply to the Guyana Harpy Eagles’ formidable first-innings total of 339 on the second day of their regional four-day clash at Sabina Park.
At lunch, the Scorpions stood at 1-0 after three cautious overs, with openers Odain McCatty and Kirk McKenzie yet to trouble the scorers. The Guyanese bowlers, energized by their solid batting performance, will be eager to make early inroads into the Scorpions’ lineup.
The Harpy Eagles, resuming from an overnight score of 260-5, managed to push their total to 339 before being dismissed. The highlight of their innings was Kevlon Anderson’s outstanding knock of 116, returning to the crease after retiring hurt on day one. His resistance was finally broken when he edged a delivery from Odean Smith into the gloves of wicketkeeper Aldaine Thomas.
Other notable contributors included opener Matthew Nandu, who compiled a steady 61, and Kemol Savory, who fell just short of a half-century with 48.
For the Scorpions, fast bowler Odean Smith was the standout performer, claiming his first five-wicket haul in first-class cricket with impressive figures of 5-68. Captain Marquino Mindley provided valuable support with a disciplined spell of 2-36, while young wrist-spinner Tamarie Redwood toiled hard for his 2-109.
With a challenging total to chase, the Scorpions’ top order will need to lay a solid foundation in the post-lunch session to avoid early setbacks against a confident Guyanese attack.
