Despite an unexpected delay, the opening night of the 2025 Coveside Concert series at Plantation Cove transformed into a breathtaking celebration of reggae music on Saturday. What could have been a logistical nightmare quickly became a triumphant evening, as legendary artists delivered performances that left the audience in awe.
From the moment Luciano stepped on stage, the night took on a spiritual and uplifting energy. Known as The Messenger, he captivated the crowd with a medley of his timeless hits, including Who Could It Be, Ulterior Motive, and Sweep Over My Soul. His set wasn’t just about music—it was a sermon of hope and resilience. Hands lifted in the air, the audience joined him in a powerful rendition of It’s Me Again Jah, culminating in a collective recitation of The Lord’s Prayer.
Gramps Morgan continued the night’s emotional journey with a heartfelt tribute to his late brother, Peetah Morgan. Joined by his brother Mojo and son Jemere, the trio honored the Morgan Heritage legacy with Down By The River, followed by Gramps’ own anthems Runaway Bay and People Like You. The audience was deeply moved when Gramps shared his son’s miraculous battle with a severe medical condition. Defying doctors’ predictions, the young boy walked onto the stage, receiving a standing ovation for his resilience.
The grand finale belonged to the legendary Barrington Levy, whose commanding presence electrified the venue. Fans erupted in cheers as he belted out Murderer, Under Mi Sensi, and Here I Come. Levy, ever the showman, reminded the crowd that authentic dancehall is about artistry, depth, and timeless melodies.
Reflecting on the night’s success, concert organizer Vonni Koromanti emphasized the event’s mission to preserve reggae’s spirit. “This is about unity, love, and showcasing the heart of Jamaica’s music,” she said.
Despite a rocky start, the 2025 Coveside Concert series opened with a resounding statement—reggae’s roots remain strong, and its legends continue to inspire.
