ST MARY, Jamaica – A tense confrontation unfolded in the Enfield community of St Mary on Wednesday when a man allegedly brandished a firearm at police officers before escaping into nearby bushes.
According to reports, officers from the St Mary Operational Support Team were responding to a stabbing incident at a shop in Juno Pen when they were directed to one of the suspects involved. As the police moved to apprehend the individual, he retreated into a nearby yard, prompting officers to follow.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, another man reportedly emerged from behind the house wielding a firearm. The suspect allegedly aimed the weapon at the officers, who in turn drew their service weapons. Before any shots were fired, the gunman fled the scene, vanishing into the surrounding wooded area.
The original stabbing suspect, identified as 29-year-old Dillon Ferguson, was taken into custody and has since been charged. Authorities have confirmed that no serious injuries resulted from the altercation.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have launched a search for the armed suspect, urging residents with any information to come forward as investigations continue.
