SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – A groundbreaking partnership between Jamaica and the Dominican Republic has been solidified as Petrojam and Refineria Dominicana de Petroleo, S.A. (Refidomsa) enter into a transformative three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This strategic alliance aims to strengthen energy security, bolster regional cooperation, and create a platform for shared growth in the energy sector.
The MoU was signed during a high-level ceremony in Santo Domingo by Metry Seaga, deputy chairman of Petrojam, and Yamily Lopez Sury, general manager of Refidomsa. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to improving energy infrastructure, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable solutions that benefit both nations.
“This partnership is more than an agreement—it’s a blueprint for resilience,” said Seaga. “Together, we aim to unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, and technical collaboration, laying the foundation for a more secure and sustainable energy future.”
At the heart of this initiative is Petrojam’s General Manager, Telroy Morgan, who will spearhead the operational aspects of the collaboration. Morgan emphasized the significance of cross-border teamwork, highlighting plans to host joint workshops, share technical expertise, and optimize operational efficiencies through shared resources.
“Our focus extends beyond infrastructure; it’s about creating a culture of innovation and professional growth. By pooling our resources and sharing knowledge, we can ensure that our teams are equipped to tackle the evolving challenges of the energy sector,” Morgan explained.
Refidomsa’s General Manager, Lopez Sury, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the shared vision of both organizations. “This collaboration is a testament to the strength of regional partnerships. By combining our expertise, we can accelerate progress in the energy sector, driving sustainability and economic benefits for both countries,” she stated.
The MoU also prioritizes research and development, with an emphasis on adopting sustainable energy practices and exploring new technologies. Both entities have committed to leveraging their scientific resources to address pressing challenges such as energy diversification and climate resilience.
As the energy sectors of Jamaica and the Dominican Republic embark on this new chapter, the partnership between Petrojam and Refidomsa sets a powerful precedent for regional cooperation. The collaboration not only enhances energy security but also paves the way for innovation and growth across the Caribbean.
