Jamaica’s beloved songstress Tessanne Chin is bringing the holiday cheer with her latest single and a grand Christmas showcase that promises to captivate audiences.
The new single, Christmas Is Better With You, debuted independently on December 3. Co-written by Chin alongside Giomar Mitchell and Olaf Blackwood, the song captures the heartwarming essence of togetherness during the festive season. Reflecting on the track’s inspiration, Chin shared, “Christmas has taken on a whole new meaning since becoming a mom. This song is about the people who make the season truly special — be it family, a significant other, or someone you cherish. They’re the ultimate gift.”
A Family Affair in Music
Giomar Mitchell, Chin’s talented step-nephew and son of reggae artist Wayne Marshall, not only co-wrote but also produced the live track. Mitchell collaborated with esteemed musicians like drummer Paul Kastick, bassist Michael Fletcher, and saxophonist Dean Fraser. “Giomar blew me away with his leadership during the live session. His talent is undeniable, and I’m beyond proud of him,” said Chin.
Olaf Blackwood, a long-time friend and collaborator of Chin, also contributed to the lyrical depth of the song. “Olaf is one of my go-to people for songwriting. Working with him and Giomar on this track was a dream,” she added.
Our Christmas Wish: A Celebration of Talent
Beyond the studio, Chin is gearing up for Our Christmas Wish, the second annual production by her Voice Box Performing Arts Ensemble. Set for Sunday, December 15, at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium, the show will spotlight the rising talents of her ensemble, with special guest appearances by gospel artist Kevin Downswell and singer Sevana.
“The kids have poured their hearts into this performance. We’ve got everything — songs, drama, dance — and we’re so excited to share it with the audience,” said Chin. Last year’s event was met with rave reviews, and this year promises to raise the bar with a diverse lineup of performances, including holiday classics and memorable tunes from popular films.
