Traffic Advisory: Adjustments for Sunday’s National Arena Event

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Motorists and pedestrians should prepare for significant traffic changes surrounding the National Arena on Sunday due to a large event. The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has outlined several adjustments to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety throughout the day.

Morning Changes (Starting 9:00 AM):

  • Arthur Wint Drive will become a one-way road heading east toward the National Stadium.
    • Motorists must follow a specific route: turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue, right onto Stanton Terrace, right onto Mountain View Avenue, and then back to Arthur Wint Drive.
    • VIP Access: Only vehicles with VIP passes can enter Roosevelt Avenue near the stadium.
    • Pedestrian-Only Zone: Arthur Wint Drive will be closed to through traffic between Gates E4 and the Bob Marley Statue.

Local Residents Access:

  • The Lofts Apartments: Residents traveling from Mountain View Avenue may access the apartments via Arthur Wint Drive.
  • Stadium Gardens: Entry and exit are limited to eastbound traffic on Arthur Wint Drive.

Parking Guidelines:

  • Vehicles parked illegally will be towed.
  • Attendees are advised to park in the direction of post-event traffic flow to facilitate a smoother exit.

Post-Event Adjustments:

  • Arthur Wint Drive (Gate E4 to Tom Redcam Avenue) will operate as one-way westbound.
  • Arthur Wint Drive (Gate E5 to Mountain View Avenue) will remain one-way eastbound.
  • Roosevelt Avenue: Traffic will revert to its usual flow.
  • North and Central Avenues: Motorists can only turn right onto Arthur Wint Drive. Emergency vehicles will use these routes for access to the Bustamante Children’s Hospital.

Special Provisions:

  • Latham Avenue: It will operate as one-way northwest-bound toward Old Hope Road.
  • For approximately 45 minutes after the event, Stadium Gardens residents may exit via Arthur Wint Drive by turning left. However, re-entry will not be permitted during this period.

Safety Reminder:

All motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow the instructions of police and security personnel to ensure a safe and efficient traffic flow. Cooperation with these guidelines will help minimize delays and disruptions.

Stay informed and plan your route accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
