Portmore Set to Host Fashion and Empowerment Event for Women Over 30

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Portmore is set to welcome a remarkable event on November 30 that will celebrate style, empowerment, and growth as the 30+ Fashion Show and Expo takes the spotlight at the Portmore Community College.

This vibrant event will highlight the elegance and strength of women in their 30s and beyond, showcasing a range of stunning fashion collections designed to celebrate their unique beauty. The 30+ Fashion Show aims to present designs that reflect the sophistication and diversity of mature women, with a spotlight on local designers vying for a coveted opportunity to display their collections in Stockholm, Sweden, at the Scandinavian International Fashion (SIF) Week in 2025.

But the 30+ Fashion Show is much more than a catwalk affair. Beyond the fashion, the event will offer a comprehensive experience designed to uplift and inspire. Participants can look forward to a series of empowering workshops and panel discussions covering a range of vital topics, from personal finance and real estate to travel and career development. This holistic approach ensures that attendees not only walk away feeling stylish, but also equipped with the knowledge to succeed in all areas of their lives.

In addition to the runway shows and workshops, the event will feature live entertainment and a special “Sale-a-bration” event, inspired by the excitement of Black Friday shopping. Organizers have promised a day full of energy, celebration, and opportunities for attendees to shop local fashion and beauty products.

Stephanie Elliott-Gunning, CEO of Compass Media and the visionary behind the event, is driven by a passion for showcasing the power of modern women. She aims to help women over 30 reclaim their place as leaders, trendsetters, and advocates for their own dreams. Elliott-Gunning reflected on her journey, which began in 2014 with her concept for a unique talk show but faced delays due to the pandemic. It was in 2019 that she connected with Swedish designer and SIF CEO, Sonja Anderson, who invited her to help introduce a Jamaican model to SIF Week in Sweden. The partnership has grown ever since, and this year, Elliott-Gunning was honored to become the Caribbean Brand Ambassador for SIF.

“Through this event, we aim to elevate our local designers and models on the international stage,” Elliott-Gunning explained. “We hope to gain corporate support to help bring more global recognition to the talents we have right here in Jamaica. There are even plans to bring SIF Week to Jamaica in the future.”

Elliott-Gunning is inviting Jamaican women to join the movement of self-empowerment, encouraging them to embrace their full potential and start living their best lives. “It’s never too late to start chasing your dreams,” she emphasized.

The 30+ Fashion Show and Expo is poised to be a transformative event for women in Portmore, bringing fashion, inspiration, and empowerment together for an unforgettable experience.
