New Cabinet Takes Shape in Haiti Under Prime Minister Fils-Aimé’s Leadership

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CMC) — In a significant move, newly appointed Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has unveiled his 18-member Cabinet, blending seasoned political figures with fresh faces. This newly established team replaces the short-lived administration of Garry Conille, which lasted only five months amid a political crisis and rising insecurity fueled by gang violence.

The official announcement, made in a government decree on Friday, marks a pivotal moment for the nation as it seeks stability following prolonged turmoil. The new Cabinet members will lead the country through a turbulent period, with a mandate extending until February 7, 2026.

Among the 18 ministers, eight were retained from the previous government, reflecting Fils-Aimé’s intent to maintain continuity in key sectors. Those remaining in their roles include: Antoine Augustin (National Education and Vocational Training), Georges Wilbert Franck (Social Affairs and Labour), James Monazard (Commerce and Industry), Ketleen Forestal (Planning and External Cooperation), Lynn Sarah Devalis Octavius (Youth, Sports, and Civic Action), Moïse Jean-Pierre Fils (Environment), Raphaël Hosty (Public Works, Transport, and Communications), and Vernet Joseph (Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Rural Development).

The Cabinet also introduces a fresh wave of leadership with 10 new appointments, including: Alfred Metellus (Economy and Finance), Duckenson Lorthe Blema (Public Health and Population), Erick Dessources (Tourism), Harvel Jean Baptiste (Foreign Affairs and Worship), Jean Michel Moise (Defence), Katia Verdier (Haitians Living Abroad), Patrick Delatour (Culture and Communication), Patrick Pélissier (Justice and Public Security), Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé (Interior and Local Government), and Pedrica St-Jean (Status of Women and Women’s Rights).

Political analysts view this combination of experienced ministers and new faces as a strategy to stabilize Haiti’s government and quickly address the nation’s most pressing challenges. With the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021, and a vacuum of elected leadership since then, the new administration will face the critical task of restoring order, governance, and public confidence.

The coming months will be pivotal as Fils-Aimé’s Cabinet takes the reins in a country striving for peace, security, and effective leadership amidst a complex political and social landscape.
