Red Hills United FC Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Revitalize Club Facilities

ST ANDREW, Jamaica—In a bold initiative aimed at rejuvenating local football, Shane Clarke, the dedicated manager of Red Hills United Football Club (RHUFC), has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a target of US$15,000. This funding will help restore the club’s facilities and support the development of its youth programs.

Established over 15 years ago, RHUFC has played a crucial role in nurturing young talent in the Red Hills community. However, like many organizations, it faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a decline in resources and community engagement.

“Sports offers invaluable opportunities for youth, providing not just a platform for talent recognition but also fostering life skills such as discipline and teamwork,” Clarke explained. “Our GoFundMe campaign is essential for us to acquire the necessary equipment and resources to continue promoting sports as a vital tool for youth empowerment.”

The funds raised will be allocated towards essential nutritional support for the players, the purchase of new training gear, and other expenses as the team prepares for the upcoming Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Major League season.

Clarke has ambitious goals for the team, hoping to secure a Major League title and advance to the KSAFA championship, with aspirations to eventually compete in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

His commitment to reviving the club was sparked by the alarming condition of RHUFC’s home ground, located in Belvedere, Red Hills. “I hadn’t visited the field in years, but a drive by in May 2022 revealed how neglected it had become—grass towering over the 8-foot goalposts in places,” he recalled. “It was disheartening to see our home matches being played elsewhere. My deep connection to the club motivated me to take action. Along with my cousins, we began the arduous task of restoration. With donations, we secured a lawn mower, and after 12 weeks of hard work, we transformed the field back to a playable condition.”

Currently, Clarke leads a team of eight dedicated volunteers, all committed to improving the club’s facilities and services. The club boasts a roster of 35 registered players eager to train and compete.

In this revitalization effort, Clarke has received support from local Member of Parliament Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, as well as various corporate sponsors, reinforcing the community’s commitment to nurturing young athletes and enhancing local sports infrastructure.
