Kylian Mbappé Responds to Swedish Rape Investigation Reports

PARIS, France (Reuters) — Kylian Mbappé has expressed his disbelief at being linked to a Swedish investigation into rape allegations, as clarified by his attorney on Tuesday.

According to lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, the French football star feels “at peace” with the situation, asserting that he has “committed no wrongdoing.”

The Swedish prosecutor’s office announced an inquiry into rape allegations but did not mention Mbappé by name. Reports from various Swedish outlets, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, indicated that the 25-year-old player might be under investigation after a recent trip to Stockholm with friends.

Canu-Bernard stated that while Mbappé was previously unaware of the media storm surrounding the investigation, he remains calm and confused about the accusations being directed at him. “He is taken aback by the implications,” she said, adding that the player chose to focus on his training rather than engage with the sensationalism of the situation.

In light of the allegations, Mbappé’s legal team plans to take action against what they describe as slanderous media reports. “It is unacceptable to allow such defamation to persist,” Canu-Bernard stated, announcing their intent to file a libel lawsuit.

She emphasized the ambiguity surrounding the investigation, noting that the official statements from the prosecutor’s office do not confirm whether Mbappé is the subject of the allegations. “We are aware of the reports in the press, but there is still no clear indication that Kylian is the focus of this case,” she remarked, underscoring the importance of due process in such serious matters.
